Desks for Tweens

Anonymous
I saw a few desks from Pottery Barn teen that would be perfect for my daughters, but after reading all the complaints about Pottery Barn furniture (overpriced for what you get) I'd like to look elsewhere. Where are some other places to buy desks for tweens that will last until they are teens? Open to anything except Ikea.

Here are the desks from PB I liked:

We bought our 12 yo this desk from Ballard Designs - she wanted simple design and lots of work space/surface area for her laptop, papers etc. I don't plan to replace it before she leaves home for college. http://www.ballarddesigns.com/original-home-office-e284a2-standard-desk/267179

It's not heirloom quality furniture, but it's sturdy and was simple to assemble (just the desk top and the two pre-assembled towers). You can customize the supporting towers - we did one with a file drawer and regular drawer and the other with all smaller drawers. She has very little paper these days - more art supplies, cords, technology things that can be tucked away in the drawers.

We just got our daughter a desk from Home Decorators. We chose the Martha Stewart Ingrid desk (weathered off white). It's very sturdy (weighs over 100 lbs). Assembly couldn't be easier. You just need to screw the legs on. Of course, since it's so heavy, it was a two person job. It looks great and is something she can have forever (and if she doesn't want it when she moves out, I'll keep it because I love it! List price is $399, but they often have sales and you can always search for a promo code online).
