We wanted to get a convertible couch, or futon, or something resembling a place to sit and also to sleep, for our basement, but our tiny door is 28". We have called multiple companies and they all recommend something like 36 inches of clearance. Any thoughts on what we should do? Are there any companies that can accommodate such a small clearance space, aside from those based in Lilliput? ?

Check out the ikea sofabed/futon |
I have the same problem. I'm considering armless to make it easier to get in the door. |
I had the same problem. We got our American Leather sofa bed from Room and Board, and it disassembles. We told them when we bought it (floor model) that we needed it to come apart because the door was very narrow. It was no problem. (I wasn't home when it was delivered so I'm not sure what came off but it was fine.)
Most futon frames also come apart. |
I got something from Hamilton Sofa Gallery, there were 3 sofas that fit for me. |
I second the American Leather sleeper sofa. We have one and I disassembled it to move it out of our basement. The one we have is also a comfortable sleeper sofa--no bar in the center. It is memory foam panels that make up the bed. Our guests love it and can't get over how comfortable it is. We bought it in Old Town at a store we found through American Leather's website. If you just need a bed, the Corduroy beanbags that convert into a bed are supper comfortable and a much more casual option. |
