I've got a small financial decision to make (compared to the expense of Ivf). My GC is driving from her home two hours away for our upcoming transfer. The first one failed and my RE mentioned staying at a local hotel "couldn't hurt". Should I offer that? Anyone have stats on whether bedrest after the transfer really helps? If she doesn't stay here in a hotel she'll have a friend drive her two hours home, walk up a flight of stairs and do bedrest at home. Most likely getting up occasionally to help her kids.
Thoughts?? I have to justify this expense to DH. |
| SG doesn't do any bed rest anymore. You are able to go back to work but no crazy workouts or anything. |

Pure voodoo. I wouldn't bother.
Good luck! |

I rested several days after my IVF and BFN. I went back to work the day after my DE and BFP. My friend went back to work the day of her IVF and BFP.
I think studies are showing that extended bed rest is unnecessary (and some studies even show worse outcomes). I think day of, you should take it easy. So riding in a car (with a few stops to stretch) would be fine. |
| I cycle out of state and they make me rest for 10 min after the transfer. We drive back home after that and take it easy the rest of the day. My RE asks me to lead a normal life once I am back home. But I am no success story to follow. |

Transferring a 5-day embryo into a uterus is like transferring a speck of dust into a peanut butter sandwich. Bed rest is not proven to impact implantation--I'd let her friend drive her home.
GL this round, OP! |

SGF only says to take it easy after transfer: 'couch rest'.
That said, if it will give you peace of mind, suggest the hotel option to your GC. Hope it all goes well! |
| I've been told that 30 mins after the transfer is scientifically justifiable. 48 hours bedrest is often advisable, but there's no hard science behind it. |
Love this description! Doesn't sound like the hotel is necessary--except for maybe giving your GC a break from her children for a night. And good luck! |

No bedrest!
Bed rest after embryo transfer Review published: 2011. Bibliographic details: Li B, Zhou H, Li W. Bed rest after embryo transfer. European Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Biology 2011; 155(2): 125-128. [PubMed] Abstract In in vitro fertilization (IVF), embryo implantation is a very complex event influenced by embryo quality and endometrial receptivity. Many interventions have been used to increase the implantation rate, but bed rest is probably the most commonly prescribed. Since the etiology of implantation failure in most cases is not related to an excess of activity, however, it is unlikely that bed rest could be an effective strategy to improve pregnancy outcome. We performed a systematic review to evaluate the effect of prescription of bed rest to increase pregnancy rate. A systematic literature search in MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Chinese Biomedical Database (CBM) was performed to identify articles reporting randomized controlled trials (RCTs) which compared different time length of bed rest in infertile women undergoing embryo transfer (ET). Two authors independently searched the abstracts, identified relevant papers, assessed inclusion and trial quality, and extracted the relevant data. Three trials involving three different comparison groups were included in the review and enrolled a total of 724 randomized subjects. The quality of the included studies was high. The conclusion was that there was insufficient evidence to support the routine use of bed rest to improve pregnancy outcome in women undergoing ET in IVF cycles. Crown Copyright © 2010. Not necessary OP. Whether I rested or not had zero impact on the success of my multiple attempts - whether success or failure. By the end I would just not exercise the day of a transfer - that was the only concession. And it was the last cycle that finally worked.
I really don't think bedrest makes a difference at all, except in giving you more space to obsess over whether it worked or not! Good luck!! |
