Zarbees - does it work?

Anonymous
Has anyone tried Zarbees for their child's cough before? DD is 1.5 so our options are limited, but wondering if it actually works or not.

I think it worked for our 2.75 yr old's cough well, but what I remember most is that DD went to sleep so fast, so very fast. The Melatonin.

My pediatrician's office, CMG, recommend it when DD has bronchitis. (and the antibiotics)

hope your little one feels better.

I just tried it on my 1.5 yo DD this past week. I think it worked well - definitely put her to sleep and helped her stay asleep and I did not hear her coughing during the night like I had during non-medicated nights. Only thing to note is that my DD, who usually takes medicine easily, was not happy about taking the Zarbees. I don't think it tastes very good.

yep, I've used it on my little ones (both the Zarbee's sleep medicine as well as the cough syrup). If nothing else, it is a very effective placebo effect.

Yep. Seems to help somehow, placebo or otherwise. Also, my son loves it. Of course.

It works for my kids. I found it to be slightly more effective than a plain spoonful of honey.

Yes, it has definitely helped our kids. It isn't magic, but it helps.

The cough medicine is glorified honey (super stickey so watch where you put the spoon and for drips). None of my kids liked the taste, but it did seem to sooth. Probably same effect if I had just given them real honey.

Can't speak for the other products, but have heard teething tablets were good.

Our ped recommended Zarbees for our two-year-old. It's basically honey, but my kid would not take a spoonful of honey (too thick, maybe) but would take the Zarbees, and I think it was helpful in soothing her throat and reducing how much she coughed from drainage.

Haven't tried the Zarbee's because I'm nervous about giving melatonin to a small child. But Maty's children's cough syrup worked a treat. It's also honey based, with lemon peel, zinc, cloves, and other kitchen herbs, and I thought it tasted pretty good. My daughter, though, said YUCK! It's very thick, so that may have been a bigger issue than the taste. But an hour later she was no longer coughing, and she slept until it wore off five hours later. They have an adult formula, too, that I will try next time I need to.

I've used both Matys and Zarabees. Both seem to work, no miracles, but helpful and safe. DD prefers the taste of Matys but I can't always find it. Anyone know a reliable place to find it?

Boil water. Big spoonful of honey, dissolve in 1/2c boiling water, stir to really get it dissolved. Fill rest of cup with cold apple juice (real, good, organic stuff). Add one or two ice cubes. Works better than any kids cough medicine on the market and they'll drink it easily.

I thought the cough medicine helped but 20 month old DD didn't like the taste. I tried it, and agree that it tastes bad, it tastes like honey mixed with grape juice, basically. DD's pediatrician suggested that we could easily make our own version of Zarbees at home by mixing honey and apple juice (or any type of juice really). I did that last week and it worked just as well and DD much preferred the taste.

It did not work at all for us. Even the melatonin didn't knock out my 2yo. Hyland's baby cough medicine worked a little bit, but the older kid version did not. What works best of all is a little spoonful of honey right before bed!

We use it (the cough med without sleep aid). But we also use honey. I'm not sure if the Zarbees is any better than plain honey.
