Open to anywhere.

Where should we stay?

Budget is probably under 3,000

I think of Central and South America as Adventure Getaways, but of course you could also make it a Romantic Getaway. How about Costa Rica - one of the resorts with hot water springs, like the Tabacon.

Lima is a good option, first class accommodations, great food and you can go on a quick trip to Macchu Picchu, rainforest area, etc.

Lima is not a romantic getaway! Poor and depressing. Even Miraflores!

Buenos Aires. Absolutely beautiful.

This or a luxury b&b in Ecuador, like near Otavalo.

There are some nice resorts in Belize-- either in the Cayo district or in the cayes.

Or you go to Tulum or a luxury resort around Playa del Carmen.

How about the American Trade Hotel or Clementinas in Casco Antiguo in Panama City?

If you like urban spot, I don't see how you can beat Buenos Aires although the flight is a negative.

I would also suggest Cartagena.

B&B in Mendoza, Argentina (if you like wine). Dh and I have been to the same one several Times now and it is hands down our favorite relaxing place to visit.

+1 for Belize. Très Romantique!

Another vote for Cartagena.

Buenos Aires, Villa Calletas in Costa Rica (gorgeous sunsets, some rooms with Pacific views and hot tubs on balconies, easy drive from San Jose, and outdoor stuff if you want it), El Otro Lado in Panama (easy drive from Panama City airport, private houses on resort that is only accessible by boat, impeccable service - this place is utter perfection), and some of the nicer resorts in Belize.

PP here. I agree that Cartagena also would be great.

While in Buenos Aires, we spent a weekend at one Estancia where the price included double room, pool, horse riding, asado (barbecue) with Malbec, breakfast and afternoon tea with sweet pastries by the fireplace.
