My son is a senior with fantastic grades...usually. He has already been accepted to two great schools. All of a sudden we seem to be "missing a few classes" and his usual level of effort towards schools has dropped off. Of course, we realize that his offered could be rescinded. Hopefully he will not let it go that far. The question - is this a thing you see in a kid like this? Advice? Reassurance? |
Yes. Normal.

Totally normal. My son reports a girl went from straight As to nearly straight Bs immediately after getting into Princeton. |
There's the downside of early admissions. My DC got one EA admit but 2 deferrals, and then proceeded to end up on 4 waitlists. Nothing like that to keep your nose to the grindstone. Got a 4.0 the final semester. |
I posted something similar last year at this time. DC is in college and doing great. Totally normal. |
Totally normal IF he is dropping from an A student to a A/B/maybe a few C student. Not normal if he's dropping from an A student to a D student, or a B student to a D student. Just as long as he can keep the grades up to not be rescinded, he's fine! |
when they don't care about learning but instead about climbing the ladder and accumulating gold stars, this will happen. |
My DC is EA and is still engaged in every activity - and then some, while maintaining their As. Depends on the person, I suppose. |
