letrozole/femara IUI at CFA?

Anonymous
Does anyone know if any doc at CFA will use femara/letrozole for IUIs? I'm basically in downtown DC, so had wanted to keep to GW, CFA or SG. GW won't. SG does and I'm with them now but I'm realizing what a PITA it will be to have to trek to Rockville for IUIs/miss a chunk of work or do the will the sperm be here in time/still be good/do I have to drag it up to Rockville guessing game if I try to get an IUI at K st. Quick search says CFA, which would be much more convenient generally, probably doesn't though there was a mention years ago that Abassi might. Figured an updated ask would be worthwhile. TIA!

I asked for it and was told no.

They will not use that combo unless you have been unsuccessful for several months on the clomid protocol. After 4 (maybe 5) unsuccessful clomid IUI's, I specifically requested letrozole and it was prescribed.

I really drove the agenda with CFA. I did three rounds of clomid, then asked for injectibles (granted), then did three rounds of that and asked for IVF. The Dr. said insurance would never approve it, but I said that I didn't care and asked him to submit the request anyways. It was approved. I think if you speak from a place of strength, you usually can get what you want. The CFA lab location is def more convenient than Rockville (and I do think they are a bit cheaper than SGF). Although, if they don't need to do a sperm wash, you may be able to do IUI at the K St. office. It also depends on if it's important to have a long term relationship with the same RE. Good luck OP!

I'm currently on a 2ww for the second IUI with Letrozole and Ovidrel done at CFA (Dr. Abbasi).
Back in 2013, with my obgyn, I did 4 rounds with Clomid (unmonitored) and it did not work, so I'm guessing that's why she did not put me on Clomid.
I had no side effects with Letrozole whatsoever (with Clomid I felt dizzy and had headaches).
On cycle one we did a day 3-7 protocol and it did not work.
This cycle we did day 5-9 protocol and on the day 12 sono there was a huge follicle, so we did the IUI the next day.
They do not expect multiple follicles when the patient is on Femara as opposed to Clomid.

Hope this helps.

I know you didn't mention it but dominion does letrozole iuis. I'm not sure they even use clomid- they put me and 2 other friends on it to begin with for our iuis. They can do the iuis at the arlington office.
