moving to MCPS --how do kids fit into the compacted math arrangement if they transfer in 3rd or 4th?

Anonymous
If kids transfer into MCPS in 3rd or 4th grade, can they take a test when they come to the school to see if they can be in compacted math? Or is there some cutoff, if you don't apply at some point in 2nd or 3rd grade you simply miss the boat?

Thanks.

They will be evaluated with all of the other students if you transfer in 3rd. If you transfer in 4th, ask immediately for your child to be assessed. Neither is a big deal, only moving in 5th would not work.

However, don't assume your child will make it in. Some schools seem tougher than others to allow students in the program.

Our school had a new child come in 5th grade. Child was tested and placed in conoact math.

Right..if a child came from an accelerated class..no reason they can't start in 5th.
