Owe $10k in federal taxes.
Ouch. That is all. |
|
Do you have a CPA, use Turbo Tax, or just do it on your own?
How was it so off? |
| yikes I'm dreading mine... |
| This is why DH and claim 0 instead of 1...it's nice to get a refund check instead of owing...sorry, OP, that super sucks. |
| We both claim 0 and put away an extra $800 a month. It's ridiculous since we're regular w-4 employees with a huge mortgage. Marriage penalty! |
| Ugh, sorry. This is the first year we are being hit with AMT in earnest. Fuck indeed. And dh switched jobs and he or hr screwed up withholding, so we have to file in dc and va and pay an underpayment fine. |
| Ouch OP. Sorry, do you have an accountant? |
Honestly I'm not sure. We use turbotax. I suspect we just didn't withhold enough, it's also the first year we've both worked a full 12 months so our income is a bit higher than it has been in years past. I just was shocked at how much more it was. Usually we owe $2,000 or so, often balanced by a state refund of a similar amount. |
| We owed 9k per quarter because of an odd salary structure for DH earlier in the year. It SUUUUUUCKS. We are solidly middle class too. And I don't mean in the 300K sense. |
| So you must be making a ton of money if you claim 0 and still owe. What's your HHI? |
| That happened to us last year. It sucked and we're still digging out. |
| I have cut back on work and make less. It's not worth trading your life for highly taxed income. I fully intend to throttle back and take government subsidies as I age and watch upper income people kill themselves paying for me. Especially in MD , where I know many vote for it. I figure the faster the system breaks, the faster it gets fixed. In the meantime , might as well enjoy yourself. |
| As long as no penalties you got to hold on money and put it to use until April. |
| Me too - darn! AMT and marriage penalty - ugh! |
| Yeah. That's why dh & I waited until after the start of the New Year to get married. I was 5 months pregnant on our wedding day.... |
