Black and white boxes/stripes

I get them on this site and maybe a couple of others (can't exactly recall; I spend altogether too much time here) and they block text. Any idea what causes this? I'm using Safari on my Mac.

I also use Safari and my Mac and also get these stripes and boxes. I have spent quite a bit of time trying to track down the cause. I am convinced that it is caused by ads provided by Google. I have tried changing settings with Google's ad service, but nothing has worked so far. I'm still looking into it. The worst is when the stripes start while you are in the middle of a reply and then you can finish it. It drives me crazy.

This is a known issue. Some sites report some work-arounds to cope with this until Apple comes up with a solution:

That's not actually the problem that I am seeing. Instead of a single black box, I get flashing stripes.
