Maine - without kids

Looking to do a Maine getaway this August - just us. Any advice on where to go and what to do?

Kennebunkport--lovely little town. There are a bunch of B and Bs and there is this really large hotel--can't remember the name but maybe someone on the list will pipe in. It's really old but a landmark and very sweet--at least when I was there 10 years back. I thought it was just a great place to visit! Have fun!

Along the same lines, the Cliff House Hotel in Ogunquit (next to Kennebunkport) is very nice.

There are rentals around Sebago lake (towards the NH border) - you might look for B&Bs. The Maine beaches are cold, so are the lakes, but the boating and hiking are spectacular.

Or plan a few day drive up the coast on Highway 1 - lots of scenic places to stop - including Bar Harbor.
