I just turned 40 and I'm thinking of having a baby using donor sperm. I haven't done any research yet, and have no idea where to start. Do you have recommendations of a reproductive endocrinologist or a practice that would be good i.e. Understanding and non judgmental with experience dealing with single moms doing it alone. I would be grateful for any tips on where to begin and I would love to hear from moms that have been through it. Thank you!
We had a fantastic experience with Fady Sharara at Va Center for Reproductive Medicine (VCRM). We had had a poor experience at Shady Grove and needed a change. We went with Dr. Sharara and had a great experience from start to finish. He was frank with us about a number of things that we would need to change. We followed his advice and we have two happy healthy three year olds.
This was me 6 years ago! I used Dr. Abbasi at CFA....switched to Frankfurter at GW...went back to Abbasi....ultimately adopted the best baby in the world. I recommend Abbasi. Do NOT wait, and good luck!
Get going NOW. This isn't something to think long about. Another recommendation for Abbasi and Sacks at Columbia Fertility Associates.
I used Shady Grove. I also started when I was 40. I have a fabulous 4 year old now, but it was a long road with a lot of luck and IVF involved.
Thank you everyone for the suggestions!
Single and using Shady Grove. They have been totally fine with me. Started at 38 with some miscarriages. Still trying at 40 and will be starting IVF. Don't wait, call asap especially since it may take some time to get an appointment and then there are tests that you will need to do that are tied into your menstrual cycle that can tack on some time as well. Good luck!
I started at 40 and ended up going to 3 different clinics before finally having success out of state. None of the clinics had a problem with my being single. Two things: you might want to post further questions in the infertility forum, which covers ART (IUIs, IVF, etc.) Second thing, I'd recommend using a cryobank other than Fairfax Cryobank. An RE said that to a friend. Another friend and I disregarded it and ended up wasting valuable time with poor samples and poor customer service. Californai Cryobank is good, but I preferred Xytex. Good luck!

My doctor is no longer practicing, so I can't recommend.
But I had a very bad experience with shady grove. Good luck, OP! My DS is now 5. Life is great. I have been blessed.
