How Much Fish Oil to Take?

How much fish oil is okay to take? And what's the best brand? I take Nordic Naturals and their rec dosage is only 2 softgels per day. But I've read elsewhere that some women were prescribed alot more than this by their nutritionist or naturopathic doctors.
How much do you take? |

I did take the recommended dosage, which was two pills a day for my brand. Tell your doc you are taking it, and I would not take additional without his/her approval. Omega 3s can thin the blood like aspirin, so it's best to do in moderation.

| My doctor recommended Expecta DHA supplement. It's not fish oil but it contains Omega 3's and it is specially designed for pregnant women. I take one a day and use the Horizon milk with the DHA supplement. |

| Go somewhere like the Yes! Organic store or Whole Foods and look at the labels. They are all different doses. Also look for the ones that are produced to take out all heavy metals/mercury. I have a pretty high dose one and take two a day (they're expensive!), but my doctor had me on these before I was pregnant anyway to help lower my cholesterol, and they've been great. Just take them at night before you go to bed so you don't burp them up all day! Ugh. I think it'd be hard to OD on them. |

| The Spectrum brand is reliable - it is made out of small fish that do not have high levels of mercury. |

| Ditto on the Spectrum brand. You can get a giant jar of them at Whole Foods and I take two with breakfast along with my prenatal vitamin and a B-complex supplement. I know some pregnant women who will up it to 4/day. It helps a lot and is good while TTC as well as when you're pregnant. |

I am TTC now and take 1000 mg a day and took in through my pregnancy too.
I did take Nordic Naturals before but have recently purchased the 365 Brand (Whole Foods) as I read the back of the containers and felt for the price it was the same. What is the total dosage of 2 Nordic Naturals? |

| It depends on what kind of NN you buy. The Ultimate Nordic Naturals has around 1700. The gels have less than 1000. |
