Tell me about Villanova

I have heard that it is a school where prep school kids go that can't get into better schools. Is this the case or do you know anything different? My kid is interested based on the kid's at his school that have gone there.

I would agree that most of the kids there probably had Georgetown or BC as their first choice. I knew lots of peopel who went there, and they all loved it. They all have respectable jobs now.
Also, are you catholic?

It was high on my kids' lists but none of the 3 ended up there. FWIW, DH and I would have been happy if any had ended up there. It's a solid school and if ranked nationally, would probably hit around 50. The kids/parents we know there now are very happy. It is expensive and stingy with aid.

Parent of a Catholic HS grad here, and I concur that it attracted the same kinds of kids BC and Georgetown did but without the stats to get into those schools.

I think of it as Syracuse for people who don't want that much snow.

Except V is about half the size, religious-based, closer to a city center, with acceptance rate closer to 30% (than 50%) and draws from Catholic high schools for about 50% of their student population. What they do have in common? They both have great men's basketball programs.

Ranked around 50? Please. Wishful thinking!

Being a teenager may be your only excuse.

And yet they tend to attract similar students, probably because the quality of education and atmosphere are similar.

Compare them on Parchment.
