Fairfax City - Schools and Commute?

Anonymous
What are the school like in Fairfax City (Daniels Run, Lanier, Fairfax High School?)? What is the commute like to Metro Center taking the Vienna Metro?

Thanks.

We thought about moving to Fairfax City last summer. Frankly, I wasn't impressed with either of the elementary schools. They're not awful, but they weren't what we were looking for. We ended up buying in Vienna.

With that said, Fairfax City does have the CUE bus system. They run pretty frequently and make it very convenient to get to the Metro station and avoid the parking fee.

the commute from Vienna metro to metro center isn't too bad - 45 minutes or less each way, and you almost always get a seat. you probably need to get to metro before 8:00 a.m., though, to get parking. (it's about a $13 daily commute, fyi.) i used to do that commute; now that my daughter is in daycare, i come from dunn loring.

Schools are decent. Daniels Run and Providence were renovated recently so they're pretty "new".

Lee Hwy can be slow in the AM trying to get to Vienna metro - not sure what hours you work, but metro parking fills up 730/8.

fyi - i'm the earlier dunn loring poster - for those who go to work later and can't park at Vienna or Dunn Loring before they fill up, there's a public lot across Prosperity Drive from Dunn Loring metro - it's $5 to park there, vs. $4.50 in metro lots. Can be a worthwhile alternative for the days you're running late, have a doctor's appt, etc.
