I ask this because I'm around $270k and just saw that I had $300 after paying credit cards and other bills.
170k. We have 14k right now but normally around 10k. I don't like to go below 4k.

OP, this begs the question how much cash do you have in your savings account? Your HHI is nice but surely you have some emergency funds outside of 401K/Stocks.
My HHI is $255K, we have about $1.5K in check account.

280k and we usually have between 5k and 10k in checking. I don't like to go below 5k.
I only keep what I am planning to spend until payday in there. Whatever is left at the end of the pay period goes to savings, so essentially start the new pay period with $0. Pay the bills, transfer whatever is going into savings, and then everything else in the checking account is for spending. Then the cycle continues. If payday comes and I didn't spend it all, that goes into savings and I start fresh with $0.

Are you maxed on 401K? Do you have kids?
We use the same approach but send additional revenue to 529K and we maxout our 401K.
|
Usually between $800-900k. This morning we had $13! I just transfer money as necessary.

$240K. We try to keep about $10K in checking for my DH's comfort level. If it were just me, I'd typically keep it at $5K+

HHI is about $250k. We have anywhere from $1000 to $15,000 depending on where in the month we are and what expenses we are anticipating paying. We transfer money in and our of savings accounts as needed if we have larger than normal payments coming up (e.g. When we were doing our kitchen reno). Otherwise, when it gets over about $5k and we have no unusual expenses coming up, we transfer money out to savings so we at least get some marginal interest.
