Hogan to cut MCPS budget

Am I correct in recognizing the 68 million cut to Education in Hogans budget will come predominately from MCPS? The system is already oversized and penny pinching.

He is cutting the geographic cost of education index. It affects MCPS, yes, but not exclusively MCPS.

The system is bloated, in triage mode because of illegals and massive inflows at every grade every year, overpaid for the persons curricula, and has huge unsustainable pensions/HC benies which eat up half the annual budget and rising.

I believe only 8% of the MCPS budget comes from the state so a cut wont be great but hardly fatal. Even if the state portion is cut 50% that's 4% of the budget.

$17 million less for MCPS, as a result of cutting the budget for the Geographic Cost of Education Index in half. The GCEI goes to Montgomery County and 12 other counties, but it mainly affects MCPS, PGCPS, and Baltimore City.

And you are surprised that the republican governor plans to cut funding for education???

Just wait until he cuts funding for the university system and tuition jumps up significantly (noting that O'Malley was committed to funding the university system so tuition wouldn't be increased).

Maybe after class sizes increase and services are cut folks will put a Dem back in Annapolis.
