How girly and frilly do you consider Juliet? That's my one hangup. Doesn't work for a tomboy. What nicknames are there besides Jules or Julie. My only other thought is Etta, but that may be odd and it's also a little hard to roll off the tongue. |
I don't think it's as frilly as many names ending in -a, and it's not a natural for a nickname. Jet for a tomboy. I think Jules is very tomboyish. |
Makes me think of the detective on psych. She made "jules" not feel prissy.
I do feel the full name is very girly, but that's why I love it. |
Personally, I don't like names that end with the 'et' sound. But I love Julia. |
Etta is an awful, desperate effort at a novel nickname for Juliet. Even tomboys can be named feminine names. She'll be okay with her real name or she'll find her way to a nickname she likes. |
It will work just fine if she is a tomboy named Juliet. She will not have to change her name to something else (George?) if she turns out to be a tomboy. Your name is not your destiny. Also, my personal position on nicknames is to use them as they come up in real life, not to pick them out ahead of time. |
X100 Etta is horrible to say and hear. |
I think you would have to do "Julietta" to get away with "Etta." |
Etta sounds like a dogs name. Here, Etta! |
Not that girly. It's becoming increasingly popular, so go for it. |
Yes! Just call her Juliet fer crissakes. |
I like Juliet. Could a nickname be Lia if you really need one? Personally, I would just stick with Juliet, and if you use that name you will find numerous nicknames just come to you when the baby is born and you are talking to her randomly. |
Most girls are a mix of girly-girl and tomboy, just like boys are a mix of Rambo and Metrosexual. Stereotypes don't really hold well - your kid will be who they are and perfect. Juliet is a great name for any girl. |
Ule or Yul, like Yul Brynner ![]() I find Etta much more frilly than Juliet. You could pick a name that you feel is less girly as a middle name. |
I like Juliet, but I wouldn't use a nickname. I've thought about Julianne or Julianna and using the nickname Lianne or Lianna if I have another girl. |
