I'd like to get plantation shutters for bay windows in my living room. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to do this?
I see that there are sites online where you can send in measurements, but of course this seems a bit risky. I also see that the company that Costco works with (Graber) does them. Anyone have experience with them? Ideally this would not cost a fortune and I am open to faux wood. I do know that I'd like to have large slats (4.5 inches) as I prefer that look and it seems to let in more light when the shutters are open. Any thoughts most welcome! TIA! |
Do you want shutters for the full length of the window or do you like the half shutters look? If you want something low-cost and your windows are a standard size, you can get shutters from Lowes- I don't know if Home Depot has them- but they were very cheap at Lowes. I got a set in my powder room for $60 and I got compliments on them. |
Thanks PP. Were they relatively easy to install? I had been thinking of full length but looking at the lowes website it looks like they have full length options too. |
Next day blinds. Reasonable prices. We got the large slats and they were gorgeous and perfectly installed. |
+1 Next Day Blinds, I have owned them 4 years and they still service them for tiny issues I would normally have to live with. they state a fair price, show up when expected (on my schedule!)and do the job right. For this service its not worth shopping around. |
Anyone use Budget Blinds? |
Not OP. I have 5 windows I need plantation shutters for. Any estimates on what this would cost from next day blinds? |
The Next Day Blinds plantation shutters we had broke often. They were good about sending someone out to fix them, but it was still annoying to schedule an appointment and wait around for the repair. One of the repair guys they sent was totally creepy.
Based on the recommendation of someone on this site, we used Perfect Fit Shutters when we moved into our new house, http://perfectfitshutters.com/. They were very reasonably priced and they did a beautiful job. They even matched the color of our trim (a custom paint). And I've had no problems with blinds breaking or coming loose like I did with NDB. |
OP here. Thanks for all of these suggestions!
Can anyone share information on how much it cost to put in their shutters? (understanding that different sizes and different materials will affect the price) |
Yes, they were easy to install, I did it myself. I was able to get the look I wanted without making a major investment (frankly I don't consider my house a forever home and don't want to spend a lot on it). |
For one 63" h x 40" w and another 48 h" x35 w" with 3" slats in white all wood I was quoted $1000.00 recently from NDB. |
This. Best thing ever and my DH is a huge DIYer. We had plantation shutters with wide slats (although not as wide as you are getting) installed in our kitchen bay window. |
We used Budget Blinds, but not for plantation shutters. We had a good experience. |
I also used Perfect Fit for my plantation shutters. I did the whole house and they did a pretty good job. |
Another recommendation for perfect fit shutters. We did our whole house and they did a vey good job. |
