I know that this forum is usually used for bashing crappy ILs (usually with good reason), but I just wanted to give a shout out to my great MIL. My ILs gave us a nice fire pit when we recently moved into a new house that actually had some backyard space. My MIL gave me a wrapped package and told me that it was for me only, and not to open it until we had set up the fire pit. We set it up this weekend and I opened the package today. It is full of supplies to make s'mores! For some bizarre reason, DH and our kids hate s'mores (yes, they are a bunch of weirdos!), but MIL remembered a long-ago conversation where I mentioned in passing that I love s'mores but hadn't had to chance to make them since I was a kid. It's a really thoughtful present, and it makes me appreciate how nice it is to not have to deal with the stress of crappy ILs. I read so many MIL horror stories on here, and see how much stress my sister's evil MIL causes, so thanks MIL! I promise that we'll spring for the premium nursing home when the time comes, not the cheap and sketchy one. ![]() ![]() |
That's lovely.

My inlaws are awesome too. |
Is it bad that I read this as "Just about to shoot my MIL!" ?
lol |
You have a great MIL! |
lol. Paging Dr. Freud! ![]() |
yay! |
How refreshing, OP!
I love my MIL too. She's not doing so well now after having a pacemaker put in, so please send good thoughts her way! |
I am with you.....love my mother-in-law. Wonderfully woman who raised an incredible son. She deserves my respect, admiration and love. |
OP, great to read that you have a wonderful MIL and even better to see a thread that is not bashing MILs. |
Yes, most people make a big deal out of nothing. Glad you can see the positive. |
You're very lucky, op. I lost my mom when I was young, and very much hoped for a good relationship with my mil. Of course, mine is mentally ill so it hasn't worked out. I'm fortunate my mom's sister and long term friends have been kind enough to step up as "gramma" types for my kids. |
This is so sweet. |
OP, you're reading all wrong! Your MIL was obviously stepping all over your boundaries, and also sending you a passive-aggressive message that you are either too fat or too thin. |
OP, you made my day. It's refreshing to read a positive and sweet story like this. My own MIL is in another country and I wish I could spend more time with her because she won't be around a lot longer.
Thanks for posting! |
