4 days, no kids, unlimited budget - where would you go?

Anonymous
DH and I are planning a trip for just the two of us. We have young kids, so we don't want to be away too long (4 days is about right). We want to do something that is decidedly no kids. Budget isn't a huge issue (I mean, we won't be spending $10K, but we can afford to treat ourselves).

If I'm going to be away from the kids, I'd like to do something worth missing them, but at the same time, I realize 4 days is somewhat limiting.

So, with those parameters, where would you go?

What time of year and what do you like to do, ie are you looking for relax on the beach, explore a foreign culture, try a new adventure, etc.

Lots of great options, the key is finding one that suits you and your travel window.

agree time of year and your preferences are key. Diving in the Caribbean (or just lounging on a white beach with a cocktail), long weekend in Paris, hiking in the Rockies, sight seeing in London, Iceland, foodie trip to NY or SF.

Europe is too far for four days--half your time would be traveling.

Caribbean, Bermuda, Quebec City, New Orleans, NYC....

Sorry -- the time of year question is a good one. We'd likely go in May.

As for what to do, we're pretty open. We've done both cities and beach, foreign and domestic. We haven't done too much nature-y stuff, but if it was a cool trip, I'd consider almost anything (although I'd like to to be the sort of trip that we wouldn't take the kids on, at least for several years). That's sort of what we're struggling with. So I'm interested in the full gamut of ideas -- destination, resorts/hotels, activities, etc.

Asheville, NC. Close by. Beautiful. Can do combo of adventury things and good food, art galleries. Can raft, hike, kayak, mtn bike. Art walk. Wine.

Cartagena, Colombia or Mexico City.

I haven't been to Oregon. I'd go there if it's nice in May.

+1 on Cartagena or Bermuda. Mexico City seems too far.

Grand Cayman is great if you want to give diving a try. I'd recommend the Ritz or Westin or the Marriott Beach Resorts there. We've also had good luck with condos on GC. My dream 4 days would be to the Dorado Beach Hotel (a Ritz Carlton Reserve) in Puerto Rico.

You're an idiot. There are no nonstop to Cartagena, putting travel time at 8+ hours. There are nonstop to Mexico City, direct flights are 4.5 hrs.

London. Flight is short, tons to do.

Iceland is nice as well, but it's definitely an outdoorsy trip.

The nicer places in the Caribbean (St John, Virgin Gorda, St Barth) all take at least a full day of travel too).
