Bread Furst - is hard, burnt bread the new thing?

Anonymous
Bread Furst in Van Ness opened to solid fanfare. We live near it and have discovered we like everything EXCEPT the bread.

The bagels and rolls are hard, over-cooked, etc. Just me? I like bread I can chew, not bread you can bang against a wall.

The bagels are also burnt. The prices are also too high.

read today's article in the food section about the owner. he says he fights with customers bc they say the bread is burnt but he says it is intentional bc the sugars carmelize. i happen to love it but i do think it is quasi burnt (but i love burnt breads).

They can eat it while they drink their burnt coffee from Starbucks.

I also love the breads there - they are soft on the inside and really crusty on the outside. Different strokes and all...

The bagels are hard, but I don't think burnt. They are sweeter than NY style bagels.

OP here. I love that I wait weeks to post this and the next morning after I finally do, there is an article about it. Headed off to read it now. Thanks!

+1 - christ I swear I thought I was the only one who doesn't care for Starbucks burnt bitter coffee. Its like you don't admit to anyone that you don't like their coffee, they'll think there's something wrong with you.

Starbucks uses cheap robusta beans and roasts the crap out of them. No matter what they say.

It is crap crap crap.

That's exactly why they put dairy products in their drinks to cover that awful coffee taste.

I can't believe Starbucks convinced people to pay for that stuff.

Bread Furst will be out of business in six months. He has no idea how to run a business.

Funny, I like the bread and nothing else! I don't love the bagels. The baguette is probably the best I've ever had in the city. I can't stand the confused service and the fact that they seem to have changed around all of their procedures every time I go in there. And then there's the $4 bits of caramel by the counter. . .
