Ideas for something to do with the kids on MLK day, which would honor the day with service?

This is for MoCo, but probably other things going on in DC or VA depending on where you live:

Head down to MLK Ave. S.E and pick up bullet casings.

I don't mean to be rude, but I suspect it's a little late for you to try to do something impulsive. Whatever you do, don't end up being a burden somewhere you mean to help.

Get your kids to clean out their toy and clothes closet and help you wash the clothes and pack them up for donation.

My mother always made sure that the clothes we donated were clean, mended perfectly and ironed then placed in a clean box. I have continued this with my kids - it establishes a sense of pride in the donation and not just throwing old clothes in a large garbage bag. I can't describe it but it is a dignity-thing.

It's so true what Chris Rock has said about MLK Blvd in any given city.

I love this and do the same with my children. It does give dignity to the donation. Little children receiving those clothes deserve clean and mended items and it's wonderful to teach our kids that.

I don't mean to be rude but telling someone who wants to help that "it is too late" or "don't be a burden" is just a total bitchy thing to do.
