I am looking for an OB or RE who
Would be open to discussing progesterone and luteal phase issues with me. I had one confirmed early miscarriage in November, around CD 35, and another suspected one earlier (July--I did not test but had a "late" period on day 35, when my cycles are usually 27-28 days). Luteal phase this month only 10 Days, with 2 days spotting beforehand. OB at GW would not even discuss the possibility of a luteal phase issue or progesterone, said it's all old wives tales. I've heard otherwise and would like to meet with an OB or RE who is at least open to testing for the issue. Looking for one in the District. Any recommendations welcome! |
Strange. They can just test the progesterone and determine if it is in the appropriate range or not.
Wow, I'm kind of shocked. Wish I knew someone for you. I found taking vitamin B6 helped lengthen my LP.
Any RE would do this.
My OB was the same way. RE listened to me. Go to any RE. Prometrium is an easy thing to have prescribed.
14:01--who was your RE? Someone in DC?
Not PP but, seriously, any RE will do this. My friend went to Shady Grove and got progesterone supplementation (and that's it). |
14:01--who was your RE? Someone in DC?
My OB tested my progesterone, it was low, and she didn't do a darn thing about it. I went to Dr. Nancy Durso, and it was the first thing she tested. She got me pregnant the same month as testing!
Thanks, I will check her out!
Go to any RE you want. You will have to do a consult. Bring in charts that show when you ovulated and when you got your period. Are you temping? Doing OPKs? RE will recommended diagnostic testing- Day 3 bloodwork, etc. RE might offer to go ahead and write a prescription for progesterone at your consult.

Are you willing to try progesterone cream? You can buy that yourself!
The first time trying to get pregnant, prometrium worked 3 times and finally resulted in dd. My lp isn't horribly short so i may try the cream next time aroubd. |
Do NOT go to any RE... I went to both an OB AND an RE at GW and was told both times that it was a complete crock and a waste of time, effort, and money and they wouldn't do it.
12:34---did you ever find an RE or OB who did not think it was a crock? That's what I'm trying to avoid. -OP.
We're in this situation now. At an RE because of need to use sperm donor (severe male factor) and doing natural cycle IUI. I have very short light periods, which makes me wonder if low progesterone is an issue, but dr wouldn't prescribe prometrium on our first attempt, and nurse was resistant to our request to test progesterone levels. Our plan is to ask the dr before the next cycle if she will test after the IUI. If not, we'll consider over the counter supplements or switching providers. I don't get the hesitation, as my sense is that progesterone supplements are relatively cheap and have few side effects especially compared to the cost and risks of more invasive fertility treatments.
