I find out mcps (seven locks) lunch to be blah - burgers or nuggets or pizza with a piece of fruit. DD is in KG and likes the novelty of buying something on her own, but I wish she could sides with her from home - i'd send berries plus a cheese stick plus a bottle of water.
She says this is not allowed at all. Anyone know? |
| Know nothing about MCPS. It may be just "process"--teacher may line up "buyers" and "bringers" and "milkers" separately. Kid may not understand. |

I work in a school and have covered lunches fairly often. You daughter could conceivably have both school lunch and food from home, but that would be a lot for a kindergartener to manage in a short time frame. Once she goes through the lunch line, there's usually only about 15-20 mins left for eating, and kindergarten kids are notoriously slow eaters. It's likely that whatever extra you pack will go uneaten or get thrown away.
A better option might be to let her pick one or two of her favorite school lunches per week, and round it out with extra fruit, veggies or whatever at breakfast or for an after school snack on school lunch days. That way you know she's really eating the healthy food! |

My child (FCPS) bought lunch when I sent lunch in with him. He said the lunch I packed wasn't enough food and he was still hungry.
I used to work at a school too, and when a kid complained they were still hungry after eating what they packed from home, I allowed them to get food from the cafeteria as long as they had $ in their account or if they were FARMs kids. |
