Do you like your berber carpeting?

Anonymous
We're thinking of getting berber carpeting for a finished basement (stairs and large playroom). We have small kids, but no pets. Just wondering if those who have berber like it?
Anonymous
Nope. Hated it. It never felt clean despite always vacuuming almost daily. I swear crumbs were trapped in those little loops.

Snags, snags, snags!

nope its gross. impossible to get really clean

It's really hard to clean if you get a spot on it, and pets will snag it.

Hard to carpet clean.

So what is better for a current looking home?

THIS!!! Horrible. Sometime I don't realize there is a snag, the vacuum will get it, and then I have a large piece unraveling. Carpet was already installed when I bought the house and just never replaced it, but I would never install it by choice.

Yes, it snags and looks dirty as soon as it's installed. Gross.

Frieze is comfy but would be hard for the kids to play on. You could just do a short pile carpet or more industrial look indoor/out door style.

We had Berber carpet for many rooms for a number of years and really liked the look and durability. It didn't snag and we had no trouble cleaning it. It also didn't show as much dirt as regular broadloom, Maybe the key is how tight the loops are and whether it is made of good quality materials?

It's really hard to clean stains. I hate it.

We have wall-to-wall berber style carpet in our family room. I don't know the actual brand name of it because it was here when we moved in 16 years ago. The carpet is now 20 years old and it looks amazing. This room is a high traffic area. We have three boys and we're on dog #3 for this house. There is only one tiny snag on it and that's from dog #2 trying to bite a hole in it. It cleans up beautifully and doesn't show stains at all. That's been a problem with dog #3 (aka The Piddler) because it doesn't show a stain where she's gone. If I smell a problem in that room I literally have to crawl on my hands and knees and sniff until I find the offending spot. Once I treat the spot, it's good as new again. I love ours. We have it in our bedrooms, hardwood everywhere else. No problems with it at all.
