Mobile banking - depositing checks - dumb question

Anonymous
My bank just made it possible to deposit checks from your phone - woo hoo! The only thing is - now I'm stuck with these endorsed checks and I have no clue what to do with them. I think the bank guidance said to hold onto them for some period of time that seemed long to me (like 4-6 weeks?). What do you guys do with these?

Put them where you put other important pieces of paper?

I keep them for a year as most of the checks i deposit are my paychecks. Otherwise no need to keep them after you get confirmation that the check has cleared. You have a digital copy of it on your phone. Bank also has a copy.

Bank says keep 60 days, then destroy.

Checks are not stored on your phone for security reasons.

What possible security problem could come from keeping a photo of a check on your phone?

Well, it's the photo that's used to make the deposit, so. . .

You are supposed to destroy the check after the deposit is confirmed. Which is a few days typically. Not a few weeks. And the photo is taken via the app. Not stored on your phone.

Why don't you just get direct deposit?
