Marine Corps 17.75k

Has anyone run this? I'm thinking about registering (if I can get in) because it guarantees registration for the MCM, but I had a baby in early Dec and not sure I can get ready in time. Is it a tough course? Is it boring? I like urban courses to help distract from the pain. How's the atmosphere compared to the marathon itself? Any thoughts appreciated!

I haven't run it, but since it takes place in Prince William Forest National park, it won't be urban at all. It will be a trail run and a friend of mine, who is an outstanding road runner, but was inexperienced at trail running, said it was very tough.
BUT if you want to run MCM, and make it into the 17.75--you should do it! I heard last year it sold out in like 6 minutes or something ridiculous.

I'm experienced at signing up for gymnastics classes in Arlington County, so maybe that will give me an edge. An actual trail run sounds pretty daunting though. I didn't pick up on that when reading their website.

PP here---I should have been more clear; I said it will be a trail run, but it isn't ALL trail. Just some parts--and "trail" might be a bit of a stretch...it is unpaved and gravely--definitely not "urban." Sorry I exagerated a bit!
