Hair salon etiquette for the infrequent customer...

Anonymous
I don't do much to my hair. Home-dye it occasionally. Get it cut 1-2x a year.

There's a local Salon I've been to a couple of times, and I like the stylist I've been to. I think he's done a great job with my hair for my face shape. I get my hair cut infrequently because (1) I'm pretty low maintenance about it, and (2) I tend to try and grow my hair out for a bit, and (3) I often just procrastinate it.

I go so infrequently that he probably doesn't remember me, but the salon keeps track of who previously cut your hair before. Would it be rude of me to specifically ask for him, even though I basically never go to the salon?

This isn't a super high end place - I think his cuts were around $55, and I tipped $15 (and a few more for the shampooer).

I genuinely like how he cuts my hair, but don't know if it's rude to come in so rarely for someone specific. I was last there in May sometime...

Not rude.

It's not rude at all to ask for a specific person. You're WAY overthinking this.

No, it's not rude at all. You are paying and tipping well. There is nothing wrong with having a preference.

Plus, it keep your stylist busy and assures him work and helps set his schedule for the day instead of hoping someone will walk through the door.

Definitely not rude AT ALL!

This is generally how making hair cut appointments work! You call and say you want to make an appt with X!!!!!

Wait what? I thought you were going to ask if it was rude to go to someone else. No, you are EXPECTED to go to the same person!! Keep going!!

Not at all...In fact just the opposite.

I think they will like it if you ask for someone specific.

It will help them build clientele.

OP here, yes, it appears I'm overthinking it! I now asking for a specific stylist is a good thing, but I worry the stylist might be like "she comes in hardly ever, doesn't do much, she's wasting my time."

I'm a good customer otherwise - I think I tip ok for a simple cut/style, show up on time, don't cancel at the last minute, etc. I'm somewhat of a people pleaser though, can ya tell? lol.

You're not the only one that comes in infrequently. Don't sweat it.
