Private school placement for first grader with ADHD

Anonymous
We are looking for a private school in the DMV area that can provide supports and accommodations
for Our six year old son who I is at grade level and above in certain areas but has challenges with impulsivity and attention.
Ideally looking for a school with small class size and experience working wigh kids who have ADHD.

Thanks!

OP I'm in Maryland, so my answers are based on the schools I know. I know there are good schools in VA.

There are many that could be a fit. Depending on his level of impulsivity or level of disruption during class instruction will be the big differentiator here.

If your DS is bright and can control those impulses at school (no talking out for example, not leading a ton of re-directing), then I would look at McLean in Potomac.

If your DS is bright but his impulse gets in the way, I would consider Siena in Silver Spring.

Siena doesn't begin until 4th grade.

Is your child currently in 1st grade, or are you looking for a school where he would be in first grade next year? Consider Maddux -- they would definitely be able to help with the ADHD behaviors, although may not be academically appropriate if he's too far above grade level. It goes through 2nd grade, so wouldn't be appropriate if he's in 1st grade now.

Green Acres if you think additional outside time, smaller classes, and greater flexibility with motion breaks would be sufficient.

If the impulsivity doesn't include anything behavioral like hitting others then McLean School of Maryland might be a match or Flint Hill.

Diener tends to work with more significant issues, but I guess it depends on how small a class size and how much specialized attention OP's son needs.

OP here. Thank You all so much for all your suggestions. I will be looking into some of the schools you mentioned.
