Breastmilk supply tanking. Baby 4 months. Help!

Anonymous
DD is almost 4 months and the past week my supply just tanked. I went from leaky boobs to literally empty boobs. I keep trying to track what happened - we are giving her more bottles bc I'm going back to work and we just changed to level 1 from premie nipples bc she was refusing the bottle. I'm doing the fenugreek supplements drinking lots of milk and water and trying to sleep! I pump now after each nursing session to see if thTll help too. I did have one big work out and started to try to watch what I eat more so that may have effected it too. No clue.

Anyone else go through ups and downs? I have frozen milk but I was saving that for when I'm back at work. Help!!!

You might be getting your period.
Also, is she sleeping through the night? Sometimes that has an impact if you are going too long at night without pumping or nursing.

Oatmeal can help

Get your pump checked and replace any replaceable parts.

NP. Where does one get their pump checked?

Go back to the early days of trying things like lactation cookies gaterade hands on pumping (compression massage). Sleep and water.

I think 15:23 might be on to something. My supply just tanked out of no where and I am 8 months post partum. Still no period but as of a few days ago I went from pumping about 16 oz at work (I pump twice a day) to all of a sudden only getting like 10 oz! I did start up with mothers milk tea again in the hopes that will help. So far it has helped a smidge but I am looking out for AF to see if she is finally ready to show her face after all these blissful months apart!

Yup. Period. Also, please be careful about emotions. I got thrown into a bit of a depression at that point (combined with a lovely sleep regression). My depression was treated with progesterone based birth control (see supreme court --- birth control can do more than prevent pregnancies--) and my supply rebounded.

Supply regulating, ovulation, period coming (people say, it's probably ovulation if you aren't actually bleeding), stress, less nursing sessions.

Are you nursing or just pumping?

You can get your pumped checked at the Breastfeeding center in DC (K St).

My supply is tanking too, OP- none of the above has helped me unfortunately. I went from pumping 10 oz / day at work to now pumping 5-6. Boo.

Take three days off and do a nurse in. I would not recommend this at 9 months but your baby is young enough that I think it would be beneficial if you want to stick with breast milk. Get some help and take three days to just focus on nursing and taking care of yourself..and pump for 10 min after each day feeding!! good luck

Eat and drink. Save the cutting back for when you wean.

Hold up! Very common for your supply to regulate at this age. Is there a reason you think baby isn't getting enough? Or are you EPing? If you nurse, just keep nursing the baby. At 4 mos you won't be as full bc your body has figured out that you aren't feeding the village.

If you are EPing or you can tell baby is still hungry, it might be your period or the diet exercise but more likely period. A calcium and magnesium supplement can counteract that.

This happened to me. Nothing helped and I had to start supplementing. If you think your baby isn't getting enough don't be afraid to offer some formula. I was very anti formula and because of that my baby was hungry for about 3 weeks. FTM mistake.

I didnt know it at the time but if you search the archives you'll see that this is a very common time period for supply to drop.

Pp here. I also had people telling me that my supply was "regulating." I wasnt. It's one thing for you too no longer feel engorged and another to truly be empty. If your baby is fussy you'll know it's low supply.
