We make $250 HHI.
We spend 10k a year on travel. Is this too much? |
| I think it is absolutely fine. |
| It depends on your priorities. We have the same income and spend closer to $20k. But we don't do luxury travel. Travel is a high priority though, and we take at least 5 weeks a year. |
| OP here, we used to spend 6k but raised it. My dh thinks it's a lot. That's funny because I know its not. |
| We make $500-700k and spend about $20-30k on travel per year. |
|
There is no "appropriate" amount, OP. It depends whether you are putting what you need toward retirement and college savings, whether you have debt, how many children, elderly parents to support etc. Our HHI is 120K and we will spend 20+K in travel this year - the price to pay when our families live on several different continents. We will go to east Asia and western Europe. YMMV. |
|
As mentioned, it depends upon your priorities and other financial commitments. We make slightly less than you and budget a similar amount for travel. We live below our means and enjoy travel...so why not?
How would you otherwise allocate the incremental $4k? |
|
We make $280K and spend over $30K on vacations, including minibreaks.
No regrets and no apologies. |

| I don't go on vacations every year. More like once every 5-10 years. My DD and I went on vacation for a long weekend (Fri morning to Monday evening) last year and I spent about $1400. I earn $76k a year. |
| We are retired and spend around 50k a year; winter break, spring break and an overseas trip in the summer. If it wasn't for our kid being in school, we'll probably spend more. |
