Please tell me about Stetson

My friend's son got in with a full ride but they live in the Midwest and know nothing about Southern colleges.

Not likely a full ride. Best Stetson gives is full tuition without financial need and that is tough to get. Might be financial aid. Anyway Stetson small private college in DeLand FL. Named the hatters after the guy that stated Stetson Hat co. They just started playing football again 2 years ago and play in the municipal field where "The Waterboy" was filmed. They are looking to improve their academic standing and have offered merit scholarships to local kids with good stats, but mostly to get the price to the in-state level for publics. Know a couple kids there who are pleased with the program. If you like Florida it is worth looking at.

If they can swing it, they should go visit. Our daughter was accepted as well with a hefty scholarship, even though we don't meet financial aid criteria. Scholarships are based on GPA and SAT's and it's easy to predict how much you will get, rather than simply wondering as you apply if you will get money.
Daughter was very impressed by the business school and the lab they have where students invest part of the university's funds in various stocks, etc. The campus is beautiful. My sense is that it attracts lots of valedictorians from Florida but is trying to increase its reputation nationally. The 4 year completion rate isn't great -- but the adcom told us it's because people drop out due to the cost.
The town of Deland is cute, but small.
If you child thinks s/he wants to end up working in Florida, they have very loyal alumni and good job placements.
THe law school is supposed to be excellent.

Friend went there and on to medical school. Would probably have best admission grad/professional school results in the south.
