Please help me. I'm not sure I can nurse tonight!
A month ago my 8 month old got a UTI. She hardly nursed for a few days. When she started to eat normally again, I had nipple pain on both sides. I got my period shortly after, so I thought that was the reason. Well, the pain has not subsided and I got a plugged duct a couple of weeks ago. I got the duct to start draining and a few days later I noticed a small white mass on my nipple. I worked out a large piece of something. I thought I would feel better but today the pain is excruciating and is getting worse with each feeding. When she latches, I feel like I'm going to vomit--seriously, I even get mouth sweats. The pain lessens a bit but it is so awful. What is wrong with me??? |
| Pregnant? |
|
My first thought was pregnancy too.
Did the milk blister pop/drain? Clogs can lead to mastitis. Is there any redness or do they feel hot at all? |
| Mastitis or still a plugged duct. Are you feverish? |
| Was your baby on antibiotics? Could it be thrush? |
|
OP here.
She was on antibiotics. Maybe it's thrush. She doesn't have any signs in her mouth and I'm not itchy. Does one need those symptoms to have thrush? I'm pumping and that feels so much better for my nipples. I doubt I'm pregnant. But this is the exact scenario with my 3rd pregnancy. |
| That sounds like a duct could be infected. Do you have a red line running up the breast? |
This occurred when I had thrush - no pain when pumping, excruciating pain when nursing. |
| When I had that kind of pain, it was thrush. Argh - it was awful! |
|
OP here.
Thanks! I'll try to manage tonight and call in the am. Can my on just take care of it or do I need to involve the ped too? |
I do have a red splotch. But I've also been doing a fair amount if poking and prodding. Would I feel sick? The other time I had an infected duct, I got a fever and body aches. |
| OP here. I got a flashlight out just to double check her mouth. She's got little white spots on her cheek and roof of her mouth. So it's got to be thrush. |
| Ugh. Sympathies op. I am currently battling mastitis here. The things we do... |
|
Both you and baby need to be treated.
