Making $220K - any chance for FA at DC Privates?

Anonymous
My husband and I bring in $220k and live in a row house in the atlas district in NE DC. We are looking at CHDS for prekindergarten/kindergarten. Do we have any chance at all? We live pretty modestly and have two kids. Drive 15 year old cars. Have some rental properties that take a lot of our money when it comes to repairs. That's about it.

Just curious OP, how much did your row house cost and what is your mortgage payment?

Hmmm... Why can't you sell the rental properties to pay for private school.

Um, how could you get FA if you own multiple rental properties??

Do you have any spare cash or retirement? Any equity I. Your house? It sounds unlikely to me.

At that income you should be able to afford it.

i'd be pissed if you get it. You are not the kind of people who should be taking need-based aid from those who need it.

Given that you won rental properties it is unlikely, do both of your children attend private school?

Contrary to what the PP implied, you are not expected to cash out your retirement to pay for tuition. However, saying that you can't pay full tuition because you are making repairs on your rental properties is not a particularly compelling reason to get aid.

But bottom line, DCUM does not make financial aid decisions so I would discuss your situation with the financial aid person at the school.

No. Sorry.
