Is "Into the Woods" appropriate for a 6 year old?

Can't tell. Has anyone been with a child or is this more of an adult movie?

It is fine. If the child is really sensitive the death of one character may be upsetting.

It is definitely an adult movie. Although disney "softened" the show, it's still PG. Had they stayed true to the stage version it would have been rated R. That being said, read the synopsis, and if you think the mature themes would go over her head, she would probably enjoy the music!

Commonsense media recommends for 10 and up (and parents' reviews say more like 11 and up):

I think six is a little young -- not so much due to upsetting content but because it is quite long and complex and a six year old might not follow it. My nine year old daughter loved it; my eight year old niece didn't understand a lot of the plot and got restless. The plot has many dark twists but they mostly happen offscreen or are implied without being graphic.

I'd recommend leaving after the wedding scene. The last hour is slow. Until then, I loved it.

My six-year-old loved it, but he has a long attention span and doesn't scare easily.

Thanks for the info! I think we'll just see Annie (was trying to avoid it) tomorrow to be on the safe side

Just wasn't my favorite as a kid. Kind of annoyed me. The song stays in my head for days and days. I'll get over it though

What song?

You're in luck, anyway. This version has new songs. They suck, but whatever.

+1

It's too old for kids under 12 or so.

Big Hero 6 is still out and it's excellent if you haven't seen it.

My six year old walked out saying she wanted to see another movie. Wasn't scared, just not entertained.
