DC got into Key this year but I couldn't arrange transportation. As I fill out the lottery for next year it would be helpful to know if any provide transport.
Thanks for any info |
| No. |
| You mean the school provide transport? I don't think dcps does that for anyone. |
| I'm surprised you applied to Key if you couldn't get your kid there. To us, location was key. |
| No. |
There are a couple of special buses that arrive at John Eaton every day from eastern parts of DC. |
you mean for special needs kids? I'm assuming OP means a parent-paid shuttle? |
I don't think that the kids are special needs, but their families may fit within certain needs-based programs. |
| Be warned that WotP parents want you and your kid to remain EotP. Check out the JKLMM thread for further explanation. |
Not exactly. They just don't want to be displaced from their neighborhood schools and feeder chain. |
They're my neighbors. They don't want your children in WotP schools. Their tax money is better than yours. They are insufferable people! |
OP, ignore the snark in this thread, but also remember that these are neighborhood schools. They aren't designed to accommodate the needs of OOB families. Unless your kid has special needs or is homeless or something, you will have to arrange transport yourself. In contrast, a couple of charters have transport. These are not designed as neighborhood schools. |
| This person was throwing a rock and hiding their hand. Really, you get an acceptance letter and you come to a thread to ask a specific question about transportation. Why would anyone need to provide a snarky remark? |
|
A few Charters have school coordinated or parent coordinated bus or carpool services. None of these are WoTP. Latin has a bus, CAPCS has a bus, Potomac Lighthouse may have a bus, Yu Ying has a shuttle.
Some children with special needs qualify for bus transportation - but I assume this is not your situation. There are a few other exceptions. For example, there are some agreements with military housing and embassies where you may see some buses. |
| There are at least two buses outside mann every afternoon and at least one of the buses goes to several NW schools and then takes the kids wherever they go (I have no idea.) THere is a sign in the front window that says "Mann, Eaton, Key, Janney" so I assume it makes the rounds to all those schools. |
