the bedroom is typical in size, i think 11x14 with 2 windows and a ceiling fan. we would like to keep the ceiling fan but i'm wondering if it's dangerous to have bunkbeds in this case. i'm imagining the fan wacking someone in the head eventually. |
yes, it's dangerous. |
We had to remove our ceiling fan when we got bunkbeds and replaced it with a simple wall-mounted fan (like this, for example: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Lasko-16-in-Oscillating-Wall-Mount-Fan-3016/100658981)

Absolutely no ceiling fans with bunk beds. |
Baaaaad idea. |
We have one, but far removed from the top bunk. |
Get a "low loft." Shorter than a traditional bunk bed. |
Irresistible to some kids. |
I have find memories of putting piles of playing cards on each fan blade and then turning on the fan and it would "snow" when I was little. This was the 80's. |
We have this but the fan blades are very short so they don't get near the top bunks. |
Our fan couldn't be turned on without the chain, but DD could reach the blades and ripped one off during a tantrum. Nice. |

OP - I think you already know the answer to your question. |
The fan is a bad idea, but if you remove the fan, the top bunk get impossibly hot. I think you need a different solution. |
How old are your kids?
It would definitely be a no go at my house, but your children may be less inclined to do something to injure themselves. Mine would see it as a challenge. |
