Need recs for short but good fiction

Anonymous
I'm one book short of meeting my goal of reading 12 books in 2014. (I know it's a small amount, but my free time is pretty limited.) Anyway, I'm looking for a rec for a short, but good, book to get me to my goal. Something like Shop Girl by Steve Martin? Or The End of the Affair by Graham Greene. Any recs?

Some short books I've read recently are Still Alice and The Ocean at the End of the Lane.

Does it have to be a novel? Celebrity memoirs are often very quick reads. Bossy Pants by Tina Fey, Ellen Degeneres's books, books by Carrie Fisher.

You could also read some YA novels, like The Fault in our Stars or the Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Agatha Christie books are short.

Orphan Train isn't very long.

It is historical fiction and is a very good book.

Or

Tuesdays with Morrie.

Man...Talk about a book that will change your whole perspective on life.

My local librarian recommended I read it because I was bored and needed a book recommendation and when she was telling me what it was about, she had tears in her eyes. That sold me. ;'(

I agree with We Are Liars. I also just finished Wonder (YA) which was great. The Rosie Project was a quick, enjoyable read too.

Thunderstruck by Elizabeth McCracken. It's a book of short stories.

Emily St. John Mandel's Station 11 is a very quick read and such a good book. A couple years back I read Julian Barnes' The Sense of an Ending in one sitting.

If you are up for crime fiction, Ken Bruen's Jack Taylor series are all short, quick reads.

Kent Haruf's Plainsong is beautiful.

The most memorable short thriller I've read the past few years is Roger Hobbs' Ghostman.
