We are driving to NYC on Saturday (when it will be relatively warm for winter in NYC) and so I'd like to find an activity to take advantage of the warmer weather. The Intrepid is pretty much on our way to our final destination (the Upper East Side) and was suggested by my parents as a good outing. I've never been though and had some trouble figuring out exactly what to expect from the website. Anyone been with a 4 year old boy? Would he get anything out of it or do kids have to be older? Thanks in advance!!!
We took ours that age. We all liked it and the sub next door.

He will absolutely love it. A lot of walking, and a fair amount of stairs, but a great destination.
Note there is nowhere to eat there...there are some snack places nearby though. |
Maybe I'm misreading OP's post. Yes, Intrepid is fun for most kids, though you need to be older to do the simulation rides, I think. But are you saying that you are planning to stop there en route to the UES? With a car full of luggage? I've had my car broken into for far less than that over the last 20 yrs of living in and visiting the city.
Great museum. Don't forget you get a discount with a science museum membership.
