My parents and sister have decided to come into town on Christmas Day. I was hoping to eat at Mrs. K's Tollhouse but it's booked. Any suggestions of places in Silver Spring or downtown that won't break the bank but are festive (and not booked)?
In the event that I can't find anything, I may go ahead and cook. Please tell me what's on your Christmas menu. |
| We're keeping it simple and doing steaks, mashed potatoes, and creamed spinach. |
| We do a thanksgiving menu for Christmas. We just add eggnog and Christmas cookies to it. |
We're cooking, but only for 5 people total. Prime rib, mashed potatoes, and brussels sprouts. Christmas cookies and store-bought truffles for dessert (plus whatever goodies came in stockings). I like a simple menu so that I can spend the day enjoying the kids with their new toys .
|
| Pork rib roast, broccoli and leek cheddar casserole, roasted potatoes, parsnips, and carrots, and homemade rolls. Cheese, olives, and nuts to start, store bought dessert (maybe a fruit tart). Maybe cookies if I'm bored tomorrow, since parents will be here to help watch the munchkin. |
| At the IL's we have finger foods for "dinner" while we open gifts. At my parents on Xmas we have London broil, twice baked taters, a couple of veggies, rolls, etc. |
| thanks for the ideas. i like the idea of something simple! i hadn't considered that -- though the PP with menu of prime rib and leek cheddar casserole, etc. sounds yummy! |

This year it's beef tenderloin roast, asparagus corn and green beans to cover everyone's veggie preference lol and those little red potatoes smashed down and then roasted till crispy
Cheesecake (from Cheesecake Factory) for dessert Apps just simple cheese and crackers and shroom cocktail It's just the 4 of us this year, but we never do anything too time consuming for Christmas the day is hectic enough as it is! |
| You could get a nice ham from Whole Foods, then just warm it up and serve some basic sides. |
And can you please share a recipe for the casserole?
|
| Ham, asparagus, dinner rolls, seasoned/buttered red potatoes, salad, cheese/summer sausage tray, eggnog (or wine or beer). Cookies and tarts for dessert. |

We are serving heavy hors d'oeuvres all day since Christmas Day at our house will be like an open house, with grandparents, siblings, and cousins will be popping by throughout the day.
We'll have crudités, cocktail meatballs, cheese plate, and shrimp cocktail out throughout the afternoon/evening with batches of beef tenderloin bites, bacon wrapped scallops, mini crab cakes, and pigs in a blanket being served fresh out of the oven as often as necessary. |
