Peeling mandarins ahead of time

Anonymous
I'm prepping for christmas visitors. Thinking about peeling mandarins ahead of time for all the kids. It also just occurred to me that I could do this for lunch boxes too. Anyone peel and store in advance? Will they dry out or taste bad? How many days will they last? Thanks!

You can get them already peeled in a can. I'd probably go that route instead. I think they'll be dried out in a day otherwise.

They dry out quickly. You will need to store them in a baggie or airtight container.

Don't use canned fruit instead of fresh. They are full of sugar and most of the fiber and nutrients are lost in the processing.

I peel clementines the night before and store them in a ziploc with the air sucked out in the fridge.

They will dry out, but they're fine for a day.

Gotcha, so I'll peel the night before and not too many

What age? I give my three year old them in her lunch bag but just make a small cut at the top so that she can grab on and peel herself.

I peel them ahead of time for lunches. They do get a little dried out, but it helps to put them in an airtight container / ziploc with a damp paper towel. I wouldn't plan on more than a day or two max.
