Just curious if anyone else's 18+ month old still takes/took two naps. Mine sleeps 11 hours at night and is exhausted midmorning so she takes a 1-2 hour nap in the morning and then another 1-2 hour nap in the afternoon! I know this is not the norm, but how much not the norm is it?
I wouldn't worry about it. Our ped said that the morning nap is usually dropped some time before the second birthday. 15-18 months is supposed to be the average, so your DD is on the later end of normal. People, including adults, need widely varying amounts of sleep. As long as she takes two solid naps and sleeps well at night, let her have them. FWIW, my kids dropped the morning nap around 17 months.
This is a great question for you pediatrician.
|
We asked our pediatrician at DS's 18 month appointment since he was still taking a 2hr morning and 2.5hr afternoon nap. He said he would probably drop sometime between 18-24 months and to be happy we had a good sleeper. Around 19.5 months he very suddenly stopped sleeping in the mornings and the afternoon nap became one long 4hr nap!

This is not a problem, OP. Very normal. Enjoy it while it lasts!
43 here--- id take 2 naps per day if I could
My son took 2 naps until he was 23 months old. It worked for us so I didn't worry about it.
Lucky!

OP here. I did ask the pediatrician, and she said exactly what the person below you said, but I was just curious about other people's experiences because pretty much everyone I've talked to with a child this age had their kid drop their 2nd nap around 12 months. |
My son didn't drop his 2nd nap until age 2+. He's about to turn 4 and just dropped napping to 1 - 2 days/week; he goes to sleep at 6.30 and wakes up between 6.30 - 7. I think kids are a lot like adults...some just need more sleep than others.
Mine dropped her second nap around 18 months or so and now takes one long nap - in the morning. I think every kid is different.
