Wow, you send your kid to two dance classes? |
My DS started Mrs Simpsons in 6th grade. That was appropritate for him, although her program starts in 4th grade. He did it for 3 years, although was an infrequent attendee by 8th grade because of school and sports conflicts. |
Maybe it is two different kids, or different years. It may depend where the kids friends are going, which can vary by school. |
| We went to both, mainly because our DC's school friends gravitated towards one, and his neighborhood/country club/church friends gravitated towards the other. |
We used to go to both. Now we only go to Capitol Cotillion. It's a great program. Old fashioned in some sense. but in the best possible way. Certainly not stuffy. Basically, it's Mrs. Simpson's without, umm, Mrs. Simpson. |
| Did you find diversity in either of these programs this year or is it "the same as it ever was?" (As the song from the Talking Heads says..) |
| I didn't have the stomach to read the entire thread so my apologies if this has already been said somewhere. There are other cotillions. One in Springfield is good. It sounds much more low-key than Mrs. Simpsons or CC, less expensive, and they make sure there's an even # of girls and boys so no one is ever looking for a dance partner. You just sign up (no invites) and DS and DD like going. They have "grads" of the program help pick the music and help with the "lessons" although the head of the program is there throughout, and they learn the dances and the "meet and greet" and things like how to balance a plate and glass while shaking hands at a party. They have a good time and both asked to sign up again this year. I hesitated the first year because I was a Knickerbocker kid and HATED it. It was pretentious and snobby. This is anything but. |
Racial diversity at Capital Cotillion is there - not as much as the more diverse schools they draw from but a fair number of kids of color. Economic diversity, not so much. |
How can you tell there is not much economic diversity? |
DS #1 did Mrs, Simpson's. DS #2 doing Capital |
Check out the parking lot! |

Are there any other cotillion programs available besides Mrs. Simpson's and Capitol Cotillion?
|
| When do kids usually start in these programs? |
| 4th or 5th grade |
| Any VA private school kids at Capitol Cotillion? Or is it mainly a DC crowd? |
