Basis fills a gap that shouldn’t exist.

Nah. I am starting to suspect there's one anti-BASIS troll who is bored and is sustaining this post and others. This thread hasn't made sense in days and yet, it continues.

Right, a single anti-BASIS troll sustaining these threads because the truth is that hardly anybody leaves the school after 5th grade, the facilities are marvelous, the wonderful teachers seldom leave, the ECs are terrific and the admins fantastically responsive. Why, even the foreign language instruction is world class even though it doesn't start until 8th grade, always at the beginning level. Who needs more? Did you hear that students can take all 4 AP Physics at BASIS now? Just announced!

There is no one Basis troll.

What happens is Basis boosters post something like this original post boosting the school or something similar. Just do Basis search and you will see a few just in the past few months. No other school does this. Then people chime in about all the flaws about the school, etc….

Basis boosters also jump in and try to take over many threads saying they are the best, top US news ranking, etc… when the post has absolutely nothing to do with the school

Above are the top reason why so many people chime in. It is just tiring.

I don’t know why Basis folks are so insecure about their school that they have to do the things above. Is it because of the high attrition rate and desperation to try to keep families?

Who knows but no other school does above. None. It’s not like there are posts that starts with why Latin or DCI or Walls is so great due to these things, etc.. and these families don’t take over other threads.

The boosters know BASIS DC isn't the bomb. They know all about the gaggle of inexperienced and iffy teachers and the so-so admins. They're aware that the curriculum is narrow and that resources and space are lacking to support halfway decent electives and extra curriculars.

They know all this but don't want to move out of their pretty historic row houses for better schools (and worse commutes) in the burbs. They'd rather claim that BASIS is among the best of the best in the DMV public school realm ad nauseam in the hopes that more DC parents EotP will drink the Kool-Aid for their dreary program.

It's a losing battle and they should hang it up at long last.

The only reason I chime in is because people often say things about BASIS that are completely false ("there are no sports! 100 percent of the kids are unhappy! All the teachers suck!").

Since I know people use this forum to make actual decisions, I feel compelled to correct falsehoods, so that kids who will actually thrive there will give it a chance.

However, everyone should of course just to talk current parents.

Teens don’t exactly thrive at BASIS DC. They tolerate the place in return for solid college admissions success. I say this as both a former teacher and parent.
