American Riviera Orchard and Meghan Markle

Every few months there seems to be a new launch, relaunch, get rich quick scheme. Obviously none of them are working or else they would stick to it and make that their thing.

It will be interesting to see if Meghan does the talk show circuit, cooking with some of their products in front of a live audience. That would be the next logical step.

It seems many of the deals Harry and Megan struck didn’t pan out. If they are financially in a bind, it is because those income streams didn’t stream. They also have an expensive lifestyle. I doubt avocados are expensive in CA.

I guess it may seem that way if you want to believe it. Lots of tabloid reports and rumors say that. Famously one of the biggest MM hate accounts on twitter gleefully reported that the Invictus doc was cancelled at Netflix and they were done. It wasn’t true, and the doc came out as expected.

Netflix CEO on the H&M deal:

https://www.forbes.com/sites/dbloom/2024/03/08/netflixs-sarandos-knew-the-obamas-would-be-great-producers-meghan--harry-controversial/?sh=4bba95fe23ec

“They're (H&M) controversial, but that's usually a good thing. You may love them or hate them, but you're watching. And I do think that they are also going to be very strong storytellers, with great exposure to media in terms of what people want to talk about, what they think about, and they're great at getting attention.”

Not incidentally, Sarandos said, “They've taken that attention, and turned it into great (philanthropic) work around the world. And you can see the kind of impact that they have and they can have 0n other celebrities, which is very smart. And we're really happy with that one too.”

I don’t have twitter.

News of the Spotify split spread in June and gave way to a new wave of backlash toward Meghan and Harry. The Ringer founder Bill Simmons, who is the head of Spotify‘s podcast innovation and monetization, called out the couple in June.

“‘The F— Grifters.’ That’s the podcast we should have launched them,” Simmons said during an episode of his self-titled podcast. “I gotta get drunk one night and tell the story of the Zoom I had with Harry to try to help him with a podcast idea.”

I’m wondering if the Montecito/Santa Barbara aesthetic appeals to the masses?

I don’t like it. It looks bland and cold even with the warm wood tones. It seems boring and lacks any character.

But I’m very much an east coast gal. I love very traditional decor a la Martha Stewart, antiques, etc. I love homes that fall under the umbrella of traditional Hamptons, Martha’s Vineyard, etc. I also love the decor in fancy homes in Charleston or Coral Gables. All of these styles layer colors and patterns while the Santa Barbara vibe is just use beige.

Will this sell?

I feel like that aesthetic had a moment at the height of Restoration Hardware’s popularity. But that ship has sailed.

Plus: all the home decorating stuff highlighted in the spring and summer is filled with bright colors. Bad time to launch beige and white stuff imho.

So lifestyle influencer actually sounds like a good fit.

As for Harry, I don’t know where he goes from here. Speaking engagements, maybe? Working for a non-profit?

Nobody likes a complainer so he can’t even be a motivational speaker. What would he speak on?

He talks about mental health and overcoming trauma. But I agree that I don’t find him inspiring or helpful. He’s built a brand on being a victim. There’s nothing noble in whining while living a privileged life. There’s nothing inspirational about not being able to get over your mother’s death. There’s nothing motivational about a guy who doesn’t have a real job and hasn’t accomplished anything in decades.

He hasn’t overcome trauma.

He lost his mother as a relatively young child in a horrific accident which was publicized and gossiped about worldwide.

He then saw combat in Afghanistan over two active duty tours during which he most definitely saw all the stuff soldiers and airmen see which causes post traumatic stress in many if not most.

A person can be incredibly privileged and still know trauma.

He sells himself as having dealt and escaped his demons, primarily via pretending that he is the sole child of Diana and spokesman for her ghost. Harry is a total POS, and besides his idiot kill brag, there have been rumors for years that he beat the sht out of sex workers during his illustrious military career, which he only got into on some level because he cheated in art history to graduate HS and when the teacher balked, she was fired. Harry is a bedsheet stain who has created more trauma than he’d ever endured. Maybe Meghan can keep him away from her eleganza-saturated baby brand.

You know there are rumors that William has a horrible temper and beats the shit out of his wife, right?

Harry also has a temper, punching photographers outside clubs, wearing Nazi costumes, and making racist remarks. Or so I heard. Rumors and all that.

I so remember the Nazi costume. FWIW he has said it was a huge mistake and he’s deeply ashamed. It was in poor taste but it was 2005.

He was an adult in 2005.

Definitely. He also recognized that it was idiotic and insensitive. He also apologized like a decent human being who made a mistake.

Can we acknowledge that an adult wearing the uniform of a group that committed genocide is not just a matter of youthful insensitivity? Harry apologized, sure, but how do people now write it off like, Oh, that was dumb and he said sorry. NBD.

He doesn't need to self-flagellate, but let's stop downplaying how egregiously offensive it was for a crowned prince to wear a Nazi uniform in public in 2005 as a ha-ha costume.

Y’all love bringing that quote out haha. The real issue at Spotify was they overestimated the draw of *all* celebrities. They gave huge deals to lots of celebrities and very few worked out for them. Only one was called out by Bill, tho. And the only podcasts left at Spotify are of a certain demo. Just interesting!

Spotify has only generated a profit twice since its inception, while Netflix makes tons of money all the time. I’d trust a Netflix CEO’s opinion over a Spotify SVP who is rumored to be on his way out, too.

Are you a young Millennial? You sound young.

The world has changed so much in the past few decades. The culture of earlier decades, what was ok or provocative or funny, what was appropriate or inappropriate or offensive, it is almost completely lost now.

Judgement doesn't even make sense. Just put it in past and judge people today for their actions today.

Nobody thinks this way. Any inappropriate joke you made in the past can and will be used to cancel you. We're not going to put Harry on a pedestal and refuse to judge his past actions. He can be held accountable like anyone else including the rest of his family. He's not special.
