what "good" college did you attend but would not necessarily recommend to your kids or others?

Ann Arbor? The campus, Main Street, Barton Hills are all very nice. But the rest of it like Washtenaw Avenue? Just a typical suburb with lots of 1960s type houses. So what? Most students are never in those areas.

That’s the point poster. Alumni love the school. The changeable weather only helps to bring the community even closer. Remember that most of its students come from colder climates. Winter weather is in their blood and they really don’t have to adapt to it.

The east and west coasters who go to U-M would turn it down in a heart beat if they got into another top 25. And as soon as they graduate nearly all of them depart the state of Michigan immediately. Similar phenom at Notre Dame. But at least Notre Dame faithful don't lie and try to make South Bend into something it's not. Most Notre Dame kids don't even want to be in Chicago anymore after graduation.

That is because South Ben is infinitly worse than Ann Arbor and most comparable Big10 towns save perhaps Champaign-Urbana.

Notre Dame is actually quite beautiful in the winter.

UMD was extremely large and bureaucratic. Students range wildly from insanely smart to incredibly stupid. A lot of arrogance/obnoxiousness. Not all large state universities have a crappy college town. While UMD was suggested by college counselors to both our kids (would be OOS), I was relieved when neither expressed interest as I am not a fan of the UMD environs. Good friend moved from UMD to UVA as soon as one of her parents relocated from Prince George's to NoVA, mainly because she preferred Charlottesville over College Park.

Thank you. I don't know why there is such vitriol here for this school or why such hatred for whomever this booster is. This is going on in other threads as well. Those are nice photos though!

Can you read the title of the thread? It is specifically for posters that don't want to send their kids to a certain school.

Start a thread for posters that do want their kids to attend their same college. That will dove this issue.

Actually this thread is supposed to be for posters who don’t want I send their kids to THEIR school. It seems that the majority of the statements in this thread are from posters who never attended said college.

Michigan. Way too big and impersonal for teens, bad weather, and terrible location. Hoping our kids go somewhere smaller, and more convenient and fun to travel to ex. Duke, Vanderbilt, USC, NYU, Boston College, even Georgetown.
