Sure I'm feeling warm and fuzzy about the good providers who have helped my child and I give gifts when possible and write notes of appreciation, but we all know there are providers who deserve a lump of coal this season. Without giving the providers name, please share your "Lump of Coal" list. Here is mine..
The pediatrician who refused to refer DC for EI and who insisted DC was not autistic-wrong The physician who kept us waiting 2 hours and then noted our 3 year old seemed impatient and prone to tears. The OT who could not organize herself well enough to arrive on time or even sometimes at all and then she would show up with sharp objects and other inappropriate tools for a toddler. The ST who showed up at our home more often than not in sky high heals and a low shirt (showing off her amble boobage). She frequently complained on those days that DC (a toddler) seems distracted. He spent those sessions studying her boobs and probably feeling thirsty for milk. He had never seen boobs that big. For those who think a toddler doesn't care about boobs and babes, aybe not all toddlers, but mine always noticed boobs on parade. |

The special needs board is a place to feel safe to share the downs, not just the ups. Something tells me the "let it go" people may be lackluster clinicians and not parents who have been traveling this road for a while. |

Wow! Surprised at the negative comments. The SP was pretty funny. Plus, don't we get to vent a bit about providers who totally missed the boat and left us spinning in circles and losing precious time in getting treatment.
Personally, I have a huge list of providers who have totally wasted our time and charged us for that privilege. |

Same here. When we exited EI I had so much pent up anger--this is when you are acclimating to the idea that your kid is not typical, learning the system, dealing with the various therapists' personalities. I'm an introvert and I just could not deal with having so many people come through my house. I thought OP was funny. |

+2 The hoochi dressing SLP commentwas funny. I enjoyed OP's vent and it sounds like she has every right to be crabby. If you've been a SN parent for a while, you'll eventually gather a huge list of expensive, ineffective, and incompetent providers unfortunately. |

I'm the Olaf Award poster. I'm not a provider. I have had many bad experiences with therapists and doctors myself. What I don't get is having a special thread around the holidays that dresses up these complaints as somehow related to holiday spirit. There have been multiple threads about providers to avoid based on the fact that providers have specifically done things that are unprofessional. Search for them. Put the facts out there and name them.
I also find it hard to believe that a special needs family would nurse a grudge for years about waiting two hours. And no one needs a "referral" to Early Intervention. Finally, having a pediatrician disagree that your child is special needs? So what. Good grief. Again, if you are nursing a grudge for that years later -- c'mon. I agree that the ST with the boobs hanging out is a funny story. But why not start a funny story thread about therapists? I would love that. For me, it would go much much further toward the "holiday spirit." |
