making your own raw food

Anonymous
For many reasons I am hoping to make my cat some raw food. The premixed raw is not an option. I intend to do a ground chicken/organ/bone with alnutrin supplement. I'm not sure how well its going to go over so I want to just do a 1 or 2 lb test run at first but I'm having so much trouble finding the ground meat/organ/bone mixture.

I heard about hare today but their 10 lb minimum is more than I want to buy. I've checked out a couple pet stores that sell raw and alk just seemed to carry the premixed raw diets for dogs. I was wondering if anybody knew of a local store where I could get a small amount of this mixture from. Butcher shop? Thanks

Most butchers will have a minimum, and certainly for the mixture you want to buy. They won't have mixed organ/ etc.

To start raw, it's generally advised to start with chicken/ bone only. This minimizes gastric upset until they get adapted to raw diet. Add in organ meats after.

For the trial, you may want to start with the commercial blends to see if it's tolerated. Then look for sources.

For cats, I'd invest in a good processor for raw only. Chicken wings and backs have the appropriate amount of bone, and rare often easily found. Buy chicken livers and blend together. For a cat, this is pretty inexpensive. I'd only head to a butcher for those small amounts if feeding dogs (which I do).
