Caribbean with a Toddler in the Spring

Okay, like many of you, we are looking for a beach vacation but don't want to spend a lot. We don't need to stay in a resort. Just access to a nice beach, preferably in the Caribbean and affordable. What place do you recommend? We want relaxing. Night life is not important. Any good deals for hotels or resorts? Thank you!

I would steer clear of the DR. I'd highly recommend Grand Cayman. You can rent a condo on Seven Mile Beach (check out Aqua Bay). The island is safe. You can rent a car, drive to the supermarket (which is comparable to what we have here) and coffee shops and local restaurants or cook in your condo. We've stayed at the Westin (awesome), the Marriott (lousy), and the Courtyard Marriott (surprisingly awesome and super affordable -- we booked it as a last minute week-long trip with our 3 year old when we came across super cheap flights).
